Rotary Auction
Mar. 01, 2025

Kingston North Kitsap Rotary Club’s annual auction is set for March 1, 5-9p, at Village Green Community Center. It will be a gala. The theme is “Venetian Masquerade.” Yes, masks will be available, made and sold by members of Rotary’s high school Interact/Key Club. The Rotary auction is one of two fun and fund-raising events each year (the other being the Club’s annual Swing for Rotary Golf Tournament, this year set for June 20). To accommodate this year’s expanded gala, full capabilities of the Village Green facility will be on display. The gym, where a band will entertain, is the site of a silent auction and, importantly, the bar. With a stage in the middle, the banquet and live auction will be in the main ballroom, all decorated in the venetian theme.

Proceeds from the auction and golf tournament fund your Rotary Club’s work here in the community and selectively in places around the world (think clean water). You may know Kingston North Kitsap Rotary Club consists of about 50 active members. But did you know, it is one of more than 45k clubs around the world, with 1.2m neighbors, friends, and leaders who volunteer their skills and resources to solve issues and address community needs. Across the globe Rotarians focus on seven areas of need: promoting peace, fighting disease, providing clean water, saving mothers and children, supporting education, growing local economies, and supporting the environment.

The Rotary auction and golf tournament would not be possible without strong local support - donations and sponsorships - from local and regional businesses and individuals. We thank those who’ve already signed up, and we would appreciate a “yes” from those we are soliciting.

To support Kingston North Kitsap Rotary’s fundraising, a slide presentation was developed to share with prospective donors. It is interesting to review elements of the presentation, as they define what the Club means to the Kingston North Kitsap community.

It begins with who we are - 50 active members - serving the community. It states “we pride ourselves on taking the lead on activities and projects that make North Kitsap a better place for the health and welfare of members of our community.” The primary community needs delivered on include: youth nourishment, before/after school kids programs, health and recreation for all ages, food insecurity, affordable housing, homelessness, schools support, community welfare and happiness, and community beautification.

The Club invests both “time and treasure” in North Kitsap. In 2023, Club members donated 4,774 hours to community service; almost 25,000 hours over the last five years. Over

the last five years, the Club has “invested” $222k in our community. Additionally, more than $60k has been invested in water and sanitation projects worldwide.

Recipients of Rotary time include: beer/wine garden at Kingston Cove Summer Concerts, Kingston summer flower baskets and winter wreaths, North Kitsap trails maintenance, Kingston Scouts, ongoing development of Sports and Recreation Center in North Kitsap, Kingston High School Interact/Key Club, Pie in the Park, the Kingston Fun Run, community Christmas card project, and one-time events and projects.

Recipients of Rotary treasure - think $$$ - have included: Food4Kids/Kingston Cares, Kingston Boys and Girls Club, Kingston Scouts, North Kitsap Schools, high school and technical scholarships, Stillwaters Environment Center, Coffee Oasis, Kitsap Homes of Compassion, NKU Sports and Recreation Center, Kingston Athletic Boosters, Village Green Foundation, Kidzz Helping Kidzz, North Kitsap Little League, Kitsap Regional Library, Kathleen Sutton Fund, Read to Achieve Literacy Program, 4th of July Committee, Summer Concerts on the Cove, and Kingston High School Interact/Key Club.

If you can find it in your heart to support what Rotary does in North Kitsap, and you want to up your Q1 entertainment game, buy a ticket to the auction. Buy 2. Buy a table. You’ll have a great time. And help the Club better our community. Win! Win!

ETTA Project

Mar. 05, 2025 6:30 p.m.

Etta Projects improves water, sanitation, and health in rural Bolivia. Empowerment, education, improved infrastructure, and local partnerships are key ingredients that Etta Projects implements to promote vibrant, healthy communities. Empowering women in these communities is essential to the success of our programs.

Etta Projects was created in 2003 to honor the life and legacy of Etta Turner, a teenager who believed in the power of the individual to effect meaningful change. Though Etta Turner's young life ended tragically in November 2002 while she was in Bolivia as a Rotary International Exchange student, her vision of helping transcend poverty by creating deep friendships and harnessing the power of community participation lives on in our work today.

Adopt A Highway Road Clean Up
Mar. 22, 2025 10:00 a.m.
[ This is the rescheduled event from February 15 ]

Dear Fellow Rotarians and Interested Volunteers,

The cleanup is this coming Saturday (22 March) at 10:00am. We clean the southside of State Route 104 from the Hardware Store to Rite Aid at George’s Corner and our new addition from Rite Aid to the intersection of 104 and 307 near CB Nuts. Feel free to invite others.

We will work if visibility is good and there is no pouring rain.

At 10:00am, we rally at the parking lot by the Rite Aid/Starbucks for the team picture in front of our sign.

Also, I will have some treats.  I will have reflective vests, road signs, durable trash bags, picks.

You will need to:
  1. Let me know if you are interested, so I can make sure that I have enough of the appropriate PPE equipment from WSDOT.  However, we would never turn away a last minute volunteer.  We will have a sign-up list that morning.
  2. If you have not done so already please watch the safety video at http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eBxIh67-l74.  It is short and "slightly entertaining".
  3. If you have not already done so, there is a registration form to read and sign.  I hope that the form is attached to this email, but will have paper copies at the rally point to fill out.  I will collect these or you can email back to me.
  4. There is also a safety tips write-up to read.
  5. You should have gloves (I will have a few extra pairs), wear long pants and a long sleeve shirt and thick-soled boots or shoes (no flip-flops).
We will disburse teams via car pools and should be able to make a significant impact in cleaning up this stretch of highway.

As always, the road really needs to be cleaned up especially the section from CB Nuts to Georges Corner.

This is a way to make Kingston and the gateway to Kitsap County presentable for all to enjoy.

North Kitsap Fire & Rescue

Mar. 26, 2025 12:00 p.m.

Michèle Laboda, Community Services Specialist, heads NKF&R’s non-emergent public services that include prevention, public education and public information.

North Kitsap Fire & Rescue serves 46 square miles that are largely forested and rural with pockets of suburban density around communities such as Hansville, Kingston, Miller Bay, Indianola and Suquamish. The district is situated on the long and narrow northern tip of the Kitsap Peninsula, surrounded on three sides by water and 34 miles of shoreline. Areas served by NKF&R can be reached by land through Poulsbo from the south and west via Washington SR 16 from Tacoma or SR 3 from Shelton and Olympia. Seattle lies about 12 miles southeast of Kingston, and is accessible most directly by Washington State Ferries‘ Kingston – Edmonds or Bainbridge Island – Seattle routes. To the west of the district and across Hood Canal is the Olympic Peninsula, via the Hood Canal Bridge. Bainbridge Island is immediately south of the district, across the Agate Pass Bridge.
