Kitsap County Long Range Planner Heather Cleveland explained the County's Year of the Rural to Kingston North Kitsap Rotarians at their June 4 meeting.

Cleveland explained that County Commissioners in 2024 deemed not enough attention was being paid to the rural piece of County stewardship.  That set in motion a year-long process of "Rural and Resource Lands Chapter Update," eventually leading to an ordinance and implementation plan.
The draft of the County's vision is "for the protection of rural areas and natural resource lands, including preservation of places of natural beauty, working agriculture and timber lands, and community identity and rural character."
The presentation focused on the process staff is following.  Rotarians had many questions and comments.

A Rotary pin with four sapphires was presented by Club co-President David Winn to incoming co-President Tim Carr.

As Bill Beaudoin explained Carr's new pin is emblematic of $5k in support of The Rotary Foundation.   Tim's contributions "are allaying suffering, improving living conditions, and providing educational opportunities for young people somewhere in the world," said Beaudoin.
