The typical young woman in South Africa will spend an average of 60 days a year managing her menstrual cycle.  While doing so, most are sheltering in, missing valuable time at work or school, falling behind.  This is the information shared with Kingston North Kitsap Rotarians at their final meeting of the year, December 19.

Brenda Wall, a Poulsbo Rotarian, explained her involvement with Days for Girls, a U.S. based international organization working to improve lives of young women in South Africa.  Many, especially those from previously disadvantaged communities, do not have access to sanitary feminine hygiene products.  Further, they lack adequate counsel or the specific education they need to feel confidant with their changing bodies.

Side by Side South Africa, in partnership with Days for Girls International, is taking on the challenge of education, while at the same time providing high quality, washable and re-usable feminine hygiene kits so the girls don't have to miss school or work.

Both Poulsbo and Kingston North Kitsap Rotary Clubs, through their International outreach, have supported Days for Girls.
