Hail and Farewell. Alpha and Omega. Installation/Outstallation. Beginning and End.
Pick your terms. The Rotary year ended June 30 and begins July 1. Kingston North Kitsap Rotarian Sloane Schmidt organized the Recognition Party June 30 at Kingston Ale House.
Before introducing the outgoing Kingston North Kitsap Rotary Club President, Doug Hallock, Sloane reminded the almost thirty in attendance what Rotary means. She cited examples of a life rescued by Rotary-sponsored Coffee Oasis, and the impact of being Rotary Exchange Student hosts.
She then introduced two-term (not consecutive) President Hallock, the pirate.
Doug said there would be no speeches, no teleprompter, just a thank you. Thank you to Club members for their contribution to his year in leadership. He noted a favorite quote of the late Bill Gates Sr., "Just Show Up."
Doug commented on the Auction and Golf Tournament Success; and the "major strides made by the Club this year." He thanked his Club Execs and Board and noted he has received information from the family of late Club member Bill Maule that Bill remembered the Club in his estate.
Doug awarded the Club Business of the Year to Nothing Bundt Cakes in Silverdale, owned by Club Members Breane and Donell Martinez. Dozens upon dozens of bundt cakes were contributed to Rotary events throughout the year, including the recently successful golf tournament, which was chaired by Breane and Donell. Distinguished Service Citations were presented to: Walt Elliott, Chris Gilbreath, Jet Glavin, Stan Mack, Mark and Kris Libby, Bobbi Moore, Helen Ralph, Jerry Tellinghuisen, David and Rae Winn, Jessica Garrett, Jackie Baker, Dave Bomalaski, Tim Carr, and Ron Carter. Doug awarded the Rea Mowery Fellowship Award to Clint Boxman, who is leading the Club's efforts to develop a sports and recreation center in North Kitsap. Doug awarded the 2023-2024 Presidents Award to Ron Carter, Club Communication Chair.
Doug was not able to get out of office without a "roast" from Chris Gilbreath. Next Jet Glavin and David Winn were introduced as Co-Presidents for the year 2024-2025, the Year of the Magic of Rotary.
Jet began by saying what a privilege it was to be here. That the Club is in "real good shape." She went on to explain the uniting of the Noon Club and the Satellite Club, with Noon meetings the first and third Wednesdays of each month, and the Evening meetings on the second, and fourth. The incoming Presidents want to introduce fun factors into the action, including Wild Card Wednesdays when the fifth Wednesdays are a surprise announcement each quarter. David indicated they want to work on getting Club members "who may have strayed," back into the participation fold. He also mentioned the possibility of a 5k Fun Run, Bike Events, and Dog Walk events. Let the fun begin.
Finally, Past Presidents were saluted. They passed the gavel along the line to David and Jet.
