Shelter Boxes

Shelter Box Ambassador Glenn Harris spoke to the Kingston North Kitsap Rotary Club at its July 10 meeting.  There is a unique connection between Shelter Box and Rotary as the concept was born in 1999 by a Rotary Club in Cornwall, England.  Now it is separate from Rotary but serves as Rotary’s right arm disaster unit around the world.  When disaster strikes Shelter Boxes are delivered after being tailored to each disaster.  Kits generally include a shelter tent, water purification devices, cooking utensils, illumination, and essential tools to repair or rebuild.   The need?  Today 85-million people around the world are displaced by natural disaster.  Shelter Box targets the most needy people in the hardest hit places.  216,000 shelter units were delivered in 2018.
