As much as we appreciate the great effort the NK School District makes to offer a top quality educational opportunity for our community’s children, State and District funds can’t always meet all the needs. The North Kitsap Schools Foundation has been very successful in listening to the School District Staff and providing funds to provide extra learning opportunities in our schools.
Stasie Pike and Carol Glad from the NKSF shared with the Kingston Rotarians how this organization utilizes funds donated throughout the community to make that difference. Teachers and other educational staff submit grants for requests of $5000 or less to enhance their student’s learning in a variety of ways. Twice a year they meet to consider and award grants. In their 20 years of operation, they have funded $685,000 in grant requests.
Kingston Rotary is one of the many organizations that team with the NKSF to support grant requests. This year Rotary helped fund pilot simulator equipment and a special Jazz Band Composition project, both at Kingston High School. Previous grants have impacted the other area schools. The efforts of the volunteers at the NK Schools Foundation insure our donations are well utilized.
