Members of Kinston-North Kitsap Rotary know that we are a great little Club.  Although we are new compared to our neighbor Clubs,  Bainbridge and Poulsbo, we are an active bunch. We do not have the deep pockets or our neighbors,  but our Club has recently been honored for its contributions to the Rotary Foundation. We have every right to be proud of our Club.

But did you know that our Rotary District 5020  is a super star itself with stellar performance among Clubs in Rotary Zones 25 and 26?  These zones cover a lot of the West, including Arizona, Hawaii, California, Nevada, Oregon, Washington and British Columbia. Here is a part of an article by Past District Governor Rose Bowman in a recent District Newsletter.
The annual Zone Institute for Zones 25 and 26 was held in Santa Barbara California, November 10-13, 2016. At this event,  awards were announced for districts excelling in multiple areas. It was exciting for those of us in attendance from 5020, thrilled to be recognized on behalf of the District multiple times.
The biggest surprise to us all was the first ever presentation of the Continuity of Overall Achievement Award, acknowledging the Highest Achieving District in Zones 25 and 26 for the past 5 years 2011– 2016. The winner was District 5020!  The District Governors for those years were David Stocks, Judy Byron, Peter Taylor, Michael Procter and Rose Bowman.
This recognition was based on membership growth, our outstanding performance in increasing humanitarian service through the Rotary Foundation, and how we increase public awareness of our image. Our District leadership is always working closely to keep continuity in all that we do.  It works for us.
We must add credit to our Foundation Committee Chairs whose stewardship in managing our foundation and its funds gave us first place in Participation in Global Grants.  Credit goes to Past District Governors (PDGs) Brian Beagle and Bill McCarthy for their stewardship and leadership over the last five years.

Other recognitions for District 5020 in Zone 25 were:
  • 1st in total contributions to the Rotary Foundation - $1,071,268
  • 2nd In annual fund contributions - $630,254
  • 1st in PolioPlus contributions - $229,601
  • 1st in Endowment Fund contributions - $104,205
  • 2nd in other giving - $107,199
Thank you to our clubs for your stewardship and leadership.  Thank you to the members of our district for your generosity in donating to the Rotary Foundation.  As I have stated many times on my Governor journey, Rotary would not be the world presence we are today without its Foundation.
Thank you to Arch Klump for starting the Foundation and again to our members for participating.
