There is no "I" in Team.  That is the essential message delivered to Kingston North Kitsap Rotarians by author and management consultant Jed Selter at their noon meeting, Apr 13.
The topic of Selter's presentation Was working with Youth.  After a career at Boeing, he opened J.S. Associates Inc.  He has been a member of Caring Clowns International ten years.  He has conducted a series of workshops focusing on personal attitude, called Me First/We First.  The workshops focus on what we can control, our attitude.  He cited an example of a couple.  She had a habit of leaving doors and drawers open, lights on.  It bugged him.  Rather than choosing to fight about it, what he could control was his response, which was to quietly close doors and drawers, and turn off lights.

To drive home the lesson of We First v. Me First, Selter created a book aimed at ten to twelve year olds called The Lion Who Flinched: The Cub Who Would Be King.  The book is part parable, part workbook with the story of a young lion's journey to maturity.  It includes lists of behavior associated with Me First and We First.  Several members purchased copies of the book; it is available on Amazon.
