Engage, Educate, Employ: the mantra of the organization. West Sound Stem Network consists of approximately 20 area organizations, representing K-12 School Districts, Colleges, Businesses and Tribal organizations, plus 3 Military facilities.  They exist to connect industry with education.  The goal is to have all students thrive and have opportunities to have the skills they need on completion of their high school education.  The West Sound group connects with a State-wide network providing similar experiences across Washington.
Teacher training, and apprenticeship opportunities are major elements of what they do, with paid positions and pathways for students to gain experience and jobs connected to their 2, 4, or even 8 year degree programs.
From communicating with astronauts on the space station to building sensors to be placed on the sea-floor to monitor volcanic activity, the student experiences are varied and engaging.
Funding varies from State and Federal grants, Department of Defense grants, School District support. Companies fund the program according to ability - from small companies contributing classroom supplies, to huge Gates or Google grant opportunities.
