Rotarians Assist with Coffee Oasis Opening

The Coffee Oasis opening last Saturday was a long awaited but very welcome event across the Kingston area and our Rotarians were happy to be a part of the “Soft” Opening event.  Though a few more tasks need to be completed before the first coffee is served by Coffee Oasis staff, a large group of supporters, officials and staff were on hand to view and celebrate the arrival of the community changing business.  Rotarians have financially and physically worked to help the Coffee Oasis Organization become a valuable addition to our community.  As well as serving coffee and food, this newly remodeled business will provide training, jobs, counseling, and support to our area homeless and at risk youth.

The task of turning the old outdated and worn-out Kingston Community Center into a beautiful welcoming building has been long and arduous.  Poulsbo Rotarian Chris Morressey has been the on-site construction manager who is seeing the project through to completion.  Though a large number of challenges needed to be overcome, the community’s support has been and will continue to be imperative for the success of Coffee Oasis.  Rotarians have joined groups from churches and businesses to complete tasks and make the opening a success.  Just in the last two weeks Fredrick Branchflower, Keith Beebe, Jim Dixon, Stan Mack, Sally Christy and Chris Gilbreath helped by painting, cleaning and then welcoming Saturday’s celebrants.   Part of the message Saturday was thanks for past efforts and a reminder that future volunteer efforts are key to the success in meeting the needs of our local youth.
