Rotary Returns

As the groundhog sees - or not - his shadow every year in February, the swallows return to Mission San Juan Capistrano every March, and fools return every year in April, another annual rite is celebrated in Kingston.  The return of Swing for Rotary Golf Classic to White Horse every June.  This year, June 21.

Everyone who plays the game of golf, loves White Horse, cares about our community, and wants to have fun, should be planning his/her foursome right now.  Entry fee is $160, but here’s what you get.  Greens fees and cart, value $73.  Unlimited range balls, value $8.  Logo’d golf shirt, value $60.  Goodie bag, value $12.  Box lunch, value $12.  Dinner, value $35. Drink tickets, value $12.  Total value, $212.  If you’re a value-driven investor, you’re getting a good deal.  Not throwing money down another charity golf tournament rat hole. It IS a good deal.  And, by the way, you’re helping our North Kitsap community enormously.

Foundation Announcement!

The Kingston-North Kitsap Rotary club has collectively donated over $100,000 to The Rotary Foundation which meets our ALL TIME GIVING goal.  Last October when our District Governor visited, we set a goal of $100,000 by Bill Maule's presidency.  We exceeded that in our third quarter reaching a donation total of$104,524.  We will celebrate with a cake during our next district governor’s visit.

Kitsap Homes of Compassion
At their May 1 meeting, Kingston North Kitsap Rotarians heard about a different approach to homelessness in Kitsap County.  That of Kitsap Homes of Compassion. Volunteer Rae Holt explained KHoC’s concept is to rent homes at market rates, then convert them into shared homes with four to six adults per home. Participants pay a program fee of $400 to $600 per month.  Such fee covers both rent of a bedroom and a portion of utilities, internet, etc.   Targeting vulnerable categories - seniors, disabled, young mothers - the project aims to prevent individuals from residing in tents or vehicles.  Kitsap Homes of Compassion, established in 2017, currently operates six shared homes serving 29 formerly homeless people.

Youth Services Month

Rotary has a long history of working with Youth, from providing scholarships, encouraging youth leadership and student exchange programs, to sponsoring youth-based service clubs.  Youth Service is one of Rotary's five official Avenues of Service.
Award from Bloodworks

February snowflakes aside, it is not too early to mark your calendar for 2019’s Swing for Rotary golf tournament.  Rotarians are in the community right now soliciting auction items,  sponsorships, and golfers.  This year’s tourney will be Friday, June 21, at White Horse.  Another full field of golfers is anticipated.  After a record-setting 2018 event, proceeds in 2019 will benefit Food for Kids, Kingston High School scholarships, North Kitsap Schools, Senior Meals, Coffee Oasis, Community projects and events, and International projects.  Golfer entry fee of $160 includes greens fees, cart, range balls, lunch, drink tickets, and awards dinner.  Register online at www.knkrotarygolf.net
