Kingston Order Bombers to Target Hansville

                                             Happy Mothers Day

                                            It Was Over the Moon

It was quite a run staged by Kingston Order Bombers Thursday, May 6 at Over the Moon Coffee Roasters in Kingston.  Reports are, “it was one of the busiest Thursdays they have had.  It was steady all day.  We are grateful to have been ‘bombed.’”  To those who flew  the mission, a grateful thank you.  Hope you enjoyed.  And one request from Lee at Over the Moon.  If you bought some of her bulk coffee, she would be grateful for feedback.  What do you think?  She is trying to dial in her roasting process.

Next stop for the Rotarians and friends of Kingston Order Bombers is (?) Hansville?

Yes, Hansville, that beautiful place where Twin Spits Road and Hansville Road NE meet, not far from the Point no Point lighthouse (a worthy destination regardless).

Mark your calendars, as this one is on a Saturday.  May 15.  That would be next Saturday.  The primary target is Hansgrill Restaurant at 7525 Twin Spits Road.  360-638-2303.  They are open Saturday from 9a-7p.  It’s takeout only, but there is outdoor seating.  Here is a sample of their sandwich menu:

    Pulled pork with coleslaw.

Olympic - turkey, bacon, swiss, mayo, lettuce, tomato, red onion on your choice of toasted bread.

Joany R - albacore, mayo, dill relish, and lettuce on your choice of bread.

Greenway - cream cheese, lettuce, tomato, red onion, cucumber, cheddar cheese, and sunflower seeds on wheat.

The Benefuego - quarter-pound beef patty, bacon, pepper jack cheese, lettuce, tomato, jalapeños, spicy mayo on a tasty bun.

Deluxe Cheeseburger, hot dogs, and polish.  They also feature soups, green salads, and homemade potato salad and macaroni salad.

Please view the complete menu at:  hansgrill.myncrsilver.com. Pick out what you want, then place your order by calling 360-638-2303 or sending an email to: ken@hansgrill.com.  The Kingston Rotarian coordinating this is Chris Gilbreath (ckgilbreath1@gmail.com).  Please let Chris know you are helping out.  Double your impact by bringing along friends, family, or neighbors.  Collectively, our efforts have helped so many of our local establishments.

BONUS.  If you are in Hansville before 4p that day, Saturday, pick up a homemade pie from Greenwoodes Farm Bakery.  38995 Hansville Road NE.  Alicia Kellis will feature fresh apple and blueberry pies at $22, plus strawberry/rhubarb with almond frangipane tarts.  It is only Alicia.  She would appreciate pre-orders by Wednesday morning.  She will be there from 9a-4p Saturday.  Email to order:  greenwoodesfarm@centurytel.net.

Now go out there and bomb away.  Thank you.

Rotary Supports Hanging Flower Baskets

Spring is in the air.  Look up.  By next weekend you will see one more sign of spring.  Kingston’s annual flower baskets hanging from 120 light poles in and around town.  The colorful display from the Kingston Community Beautification Committee returns for 2021.  And with it the Committee has a new parent organization, the Kingston North Kitsap Rotary Club. The Rotary Club will provide the needed organizational and banking support.  Hanging and watering the baskets will resume through the work of local volunteers.  And “the Gator” returns, thanks to the Port of Kingston, to help the watering efforts, formerly coordinated by Rotarian Dan Martin, currently by Rotarian Mary Jane Gilbreath.

The basket program began around the year 2000, thanks to the Kingston Revitalization Committee and Karen Ross.  It was an effort to spruce up “Tiny Town.”  Run the numbers, and that is 2400 baskets over the years.  In the beginning, until just a couple years ago, the baskets were curated by Foxglove Nursery, as the program was the brainchild of Nursery owners Gail Halsaver and her late husband, Dave.  They are being prepared this year by Valley Nursery, and carefully hanged, according to Beautification Committee member Kris Libby,  “thanks to Dave Wetter and his magnificent truck and ‘hangers’ from the high school sports teams.”

But, help is needed.  To support the program, money is raised through individual basket sponsorships.  With 70 sponsors to date this year, some sponsoring multiple baskets, more are needed.    Sponsors will not see their name in lights, or on the basket, but they will know.  They will know they are part of the “crowd.”  The one that made it happen.

Sponsorship of a basket costs $100, plus a $30 annual maintenance fee.  Sponsors are needed.  Watering volunteers are needed.  To sign up for either - or both - contact Shannon Castillo at Thistle Floral and Home: 360-930-2843 - or - flowers@thistlefloralandhome.com.  Better yet, go see Shannon at her shop in Kingston.
