Rotary Olympic College Partnership?

Kingston North Kitsap Rotarians heard a presentation from Trevor Ross at their Aug 11 meeting.  Ross, also a Rotarian, is Executive Director of the Olympic College Foundation. He is visiting local Rotary Clubs - Poulsbo, Kingston, Bainbridge, Silverdale, etc. - in support of an internship initiative for Olympic College students.  The idea is for each Rotary Club to form a committee to suggest local businesses and organizations that might serve as worthy internship partners.  A memorandum of understanding has been provided to each Club president to consider.

Ross explained Olympic College serves young students to students in their sixties from its two campuses.  Convicts and homeless, too.  Giving students a chance who really need it.  He remarked about a program called OC Promise, which provides free tuition to thirty students each who are graduates of Bremerton and Olympic High Schools.  The goal is to expand the program to all High Schools in Kitsap and Mason Counties.

Rotarians Behind Pie in the Park
Kingston's 13th Annual Pie in the Park to benefit Kingston's Village Green Community Center has Kingston Rotarian "hands in the dough."  Pie in the Park is the brainchild of Rotarian Nancy Martin.  Rotarian Bobbie Moore is on the Board and currently President of Village Green Metropolitan Park District.  And the thousands of dollars bid on pies each year would not be possible without the pleading, cajoling, urging of Rotarian Clint Boxman.

This year's event, Aug 12, resulted in more than $16k raised for the treasured Community Center. Because of the community's generosity most costs are covered by donations such as Borrowed Kitchen Bakery donating 10 raffle pies, the Kingston Ale House donating ice cream, and all bakers and volunteers donating their time and love.

Another example of Rotarians in action in the Kingston community.

Birthday Update
As reported earlier, Rotarian Bill Maule celebrated a big birthday with a party in the park Aug 6.  It was instigated by Mary Simon, and her husband Chris Wisler, who traveled from Connecticut to Kingston.  Rotarian Bobbie Moore helped organize a potluck around the birthday cake.  Many Rotarians shared in Rotary Bill's 91st birthday party.
Mary, shown here with Bill, refers to Bill as her second father.
Mary's note of thanks to Bobbie is below.......
