Position 1, North Kitsap School District Board Candidate Dr. Leighton Thomas spoke to Kingston North Kitsap Rotarians at their evening meeting Oct 1.

But first things first.  The annual Discover Kingston Open House was held at Village Green Community Center, Monday, Sep 29.  The 4-7p event was robustly attended.

Members of Kingston North Kitsap Rotary Club's Interact Club at Kingston High, and Rotary Club members welcomed visitors and answered questions about Rotary and what we do for the greater good in North Kitsap.

Dr. Thomas spoke about her qualifications for the school board, including private sector work advising  on workforce development and strategic planning, teaching middle school math in Washington D.C., serving as Chief Strategy Officer at the Wyoming Department of Education, and being a Mom of two elementary school kids, ages 7 and 10.  Yes, she's moved around.  She's a military spouse.
Thomas said her children do not attend North Kitsap schools because there isn't a program for them.  She said they attend Mosaic on Bainbridge Island and that half of those students are from North Kitsap school district's service area.  One of her priorities is to make North Kitsap Schools a top choice for families.  "Every decision we make for schools should begin with the question 'how does this serve our students.'"   Thomas' opponent, Debra Strawhun, is set to speak at Kingston North Kitsap Rotary's meeting Oct 15.  And keeping in the schools theme, Kingston High's principal, Craig Brewster, is set to speak next week, Oct. 8.
And the hits just keep coming.  Tomorrow, Oct 4th, the Kingston Rotary trash crew will be picking litter on its quarterly sweep of the south side of Highway 104 from CB's Nuts into downtown Kingston.
