North Kitsap School District Superintendent Dr. Rachael Davenport - and key members of her team - spoke to Kingston North Kitsap Rotarians at their noon meeting, September 24.

The presentation began with updates on a series of maintenance projects that happened during the summer, including a new playground at Gordon elementary, a Suquamish elementary gym, a gym and exterior paint job at Wolflie elementary. Principals at each of those schools spoke.
As to academics, Dr. Davenport - a member of Kingston North Kitsap Rotary Club - said this year's kindergarten group is the most-kindergarten ready in years. She spoke about the literacy curriculum. Her team members outlined programs such as the multi-lingual program, the Native American Education program, and the Native American Youth Learning Committee, and the whole child program to teach basic education AND educate global citizens. In partnership with Olympic College, the district has a tech-ed program, beginning as early as 5th grade. Both High Schools have Career and Future Readiness Centers.
In preparing students for AI, the district is educating staff and teachers for AI instruction. The district receives no funds for Navy and Native American students, which qualifies it for federal purple star grants. At 5,412 students, the district is down 54 students from last year.
